Dances Under the Crescent Moon

Friday June 18 & Saturday, June 19, 2010 at 8 pm

ANAR: Helene Eriksen's Traditional Dance Theatre is a year-long intensive dance training project. This year, ten dancers present dances and costumes from a diverse cross-section of traditions:

• Kabyle Berber dances of ALGERIA
• Ghawazi dances from Upper EGYPT
• a dance to the classical Arab musical composition form of SAMA'I
• dances of the ROMANIAN ROMA
• a Zeybek dance in 9/4 from the Aegean coast of TURKEY
• a firey dance from TURKMENISTAN
• a dance from the nomadic Lori people of AFGHANISTAN

PLUS, Helene will present dances Uzbekistan, Daghestan, Bulgaria, Egypt and Algeria.

About ANAR and Helene

Dance ethnologist Helene Eriksen began her teaching career researching and performing dances of the Balkans, and celebrated her 30th anniversary last year. An acclaimed international touring artist, she will be presenting exquisite solo dances as well as featuring her Seattle students in their third full evening performance. This event is the culmination of nine intensive training workshops under Eriksen's direction. Don't miss this spectacle of grace, fire and color!
